The Service

Organised sites are safer sites

The Principal Contractor holds the construction phase together: planning the work, coordinating contractors, consulting workers and making sure everyone on site knows the rules and follows them.

We support contractors in that role with the systems, documents and on-site checks they need, built from real experience of running construction phase safety on live projects.

Our approach is collaborative. We involve the teams doing the work in planning, issue inductions in advance so people have time to read them properly, and check that what’s written in the RAMS is what’s actually happening on site.

FAQs

Principal Contractor questions

When is a Principal Contractor needed?

Under CDM 2015, the client must appoint a Principal Contractor in writing on any project where there is, or is likely to be, more than one contractor.

Do you write contractors’ RAMS?

We review RAMS, lifting plans and other contractor documents against the real scope of work, and check the competence of the person who produced them. The contractor doing the work remains responsible for their own RAMS.

Can you carry out site inspections for us?

Yes. We carry out regular inspections comparing the agreed RAMS with what’s actually happening, and increase the frequency if a common theme emerges.
