The Right Way to Pay for Your Solar
Buy outright, spread the cost, or pay nothing upfront. We explain every way to pay in plain English and help you pick the one that suits your cash flow, tax position and long-term plans.
Your Options
Three Ways to Fund Commercial Solar
Buy outright and own the system from day one. This normally saves the most over the system’s life. Solar can also qualify for capital allowances (tax relief on business equipment), which can cut your corporation tax bill.
Finance or lease spreads the cost over a set period, so your monthly savings can help cover the repayments. A solar PPA (Power Purchase Agreement) means a funder pays for the system and you buy the power it makes at a lower rate than the grid, with nothing to pay upfront.

How Each Option Works for Your Business
Every business is different. Here’s a quick look at how the main options compare.
Buy Outright
You own the system and keep every saving. Usually the best long-term return if you have the cash available.
Capital Allowances
HMRC usually treats solar panels like other business equipment, so you may be able to take the cost off your taxable profits. Speak to your accountant.
Asset Finance
Spread the cost over a set period with fixed repayments, and benefit from the system from day one.
Leasing
Lease the system for an agreed period. Your cash stays free and your energy bills go down.
Solar PPA
No upfront cost. A funder owns the system and you buy the power it makes at an agreed rate.
Mix and Match
Bigger or multi-site projects can combine options. We’ll compare them side by side for you.

Solar Funding Questions
What is the cheapest way to get commercial solar?
Buying outright usually costs the least over the system’s life. A PPA has no upfront cost, but you share the savings with the funder. Finance sits in between. We work out each option for your site.
Can solar qualify for tax relief?
Commercial solar can qualify for capital allowances, which may cut your corporation tax bill. How much you can claim depends on your business and tax position, so always check with your accountant. Our solar tax relief guide explains the basics.
Can monthly savings cover finance repayments?
On well-designed systems, energy savings can cover a large part of the repayments, and sometimes more. It depends on system size, your usage and the finance terms. We show you the figures before you commit.
Do you provide finance yourselves?
No. We are not a lender. We can introduce you to finance companies and PPA funders, and give them the technical and savings information they need.
Is this financial advice?
No. We give you technical and savings information to help you compare options. For tax and money decisions, speak to your accountant or a qualified financial adviser.
How long is the payback on commercial solar?
It varies with system size, cost, usage and electricity prices. Try our payback calculator for an estimate, or book a survey for figures based on your real data.
