Solar Panels for Farms and Agricultural Businesses
Turn barn roofs and poor land into a long-term energy asset. We design and fit solar and battery systems for dairy, poultry, arable and mixed farms, to cut running costs and help protect you from rising energy prices.
Your Challenges, Solved
Solar That Works for Working Farms
Farms have their own energy use, buildings and grid limits. Here’s how we deal with them.
High energy use from equipment
Milk cooling, ventilation, lighting, grain drying and pumps all add up to big electricity bills.
A system matched to your farm
We look at how and when you use power, then size the system so as much as possible is used on the farm.
Early morning and evening demand
Milking and livestock routines often happen before sunrise or after sunset.
Battery storage
Store daytime solar, or cheaper overnight power, to cover milking and other early or late work.
Older agricultural buildings
Barn roofs vary a lot in condition, structure and material.
Survey first, or go ground-mounted
We check the roof properly. If it isn’t suitable, a ground-mounted array (panels on frames on unused land) is often the better option.
Rural grid limits
Rural electricity networks often can’t take much power, which limits how much you can connect and send back to the grid.
We deal with the grid for you
We deal with the electricity network for you. If your local network can’t take much power back, we set your system up so it never sends more than it’s allowed.
Keeping land productive
You don’t want to lose valuable land or disrupt livestock.
Use low-grade land and keep grazing
Ground arrays can sit on poorer fields, and sheep can still graze around and under the panels.
Ground-Mounted Solar
Power From Land That Keeps Working
Panels in a field let you make more electricity than a roof alone, on land that may earn very little. We can angle them for the best output, and sheep can keep grazing the field, keeping the grass down for you.

FAQs
Farm Solar Questions
Do I need planning permission for farm solar?
Many rooftop systems on farm buildings don’t need planning permission (they count as permitted development). Ground-mounted arrays often do, depending on size and location. We’ll tell you what applies to your site.
Can livestock graze around ground-mounted panels?
Yes. Sheep are often grazed around and under ground-mounted arrays. The panels are mounted high enough, and the site is designed with grazing in mind.
My barn roof is old. Can it still have solar?
It depends on the structure and condition. We survey the roof first. If it isn’t suitable, a ground-mounted system is often the more practical choice.
Is a battery worth it on a farm?
Often, yes. If you have early morning or evening work like milking, you can store solar from the day, or charge on cheaper overnight rates, to cover those times.
