The Brief
The Midlands Combined Authority won Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund (SHDF) money to make social homes across the region greener and cheaper to heat. The aim was to cut tenants’ energy bills, cut carbon and move homes off gas and oil heating.
The Challenge
- Working inside homes while tenants were living there.
- Swapping out old heating with as little disruption as possible.
- Fitting heat pumps and solar across many homes at the same time.
- Meeting the funding scheme’s deadlines, standards and reporting rules.
Our Solution
Our team fitted heat pumps and solar panels across the programme, as part of the wider team upgrading the homes. Each home was surveyed, the heating was sized to how much heat it loses, and the work was planned around tenants.
With solar on the roof, some of the electricity that runs the heat pump for heating and hot water comes from the sun. That helps keep running costs down for tenants.
The Result
Homes across the programme now have low-carbon heating, helped by their own solar panels. That means lower energy bills for tenants and less carbon from the authority’s homes.
